The Japan Music Advert Archive is home to one of the largest (if not THE largest) collections of Japanese music adverts in the world. As well as being a web store of vintage and hard to find music ads, we are also an archive and database devoted to preserving an area of rock n' roll (and other music genres) history that might otherwise be lost. The archive is an ongoing work in progress with items being added daily so please check back from time to time see what's new. The amount of filed items that need to be uploaded to this site is tremendous - over 25,000 and counting. If you don't see any listings for the band/artist that you are interested in, please feel free to send us a request. Chances are we'll be able to find something in our files that will be of interest to you.

All ads offered here are from the original Japanese magazine that they appeared in and are NOT copies or reproductions. As magazines are published at one time only in limited numbers and because most are discarded after reading, many of these items are now quite rare and hard to find as few still exist. In many cases, especially with minor/lesser-known bands, the advert may be the only existing piece of graphic memorabilia available to the collector/fan as record company budgets often did not allow for the printing of an actual full size promotional poster for the Japanese market. With their graphically unique and, dare I say 'exotic' designs, Japanese ads look great framed and make a great gift for any fan / collector of the artist.

I've been here in Tokyo for over 30 years now and have been pretty much obsessed with Japanese music publications since I first arrived in 1978. Although this website is relatively new, I've been selling Japanese ads and other Japanese rock n'roll print memorabilia on the eBay auction website for over 10 years now (ebay ID: 'tokyotim'). Search engine usage hint
When searching for a certain band/artist it is sometimes best to input only the most unique part of the band/artist name in the search engine box. Our search engine tends to work too well(!) so that, for example, when "Dresden Dolls" are searched for the results will include all items with 'Dolls' in the title. So along with all Dresden Dolls items you will also have to wade through all 'Toy Dolls', 'New York Dolls' and 'Goo Goo Dolls' items and any other items that have 'Dolls' in the title. To avoid this it is best to use only 'Dresden' as your search criteria in this case.
